To enter: click on $30.00 Gift Certificate Giveway

The reason I'm willing to donate all my sales  to help all the little creatures that are looking for their "forever" homes is because I have the time, materials and feel there is such a great need to help our 4 legged friends, who ask for nothing more than love and a good home.  This is a privately run dog rescue where I have been volunteering for the past year.  It made me realize just what an enormous amount of money it takes to care for these little "buddies'....food, vet bills being the most expensive, and just the ongoing needs of these rescued animals.  Many come from puppy mills, strays, owner surrenders and more.

All dogs taken in by Bichon and Little Buddies have their medical needs taken care of, they are also spayed/neutered, microchipped, dental work done before they are adopted out.  Below are several photos of some of the little ones now living at Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue, while they wait for their "forever" homes.

Fiber and Swarovski Crystal Jewelery

Pictured above is one of my original designed handknit fiber choker accented with Swarovski crystals.  Also, pictured are several pairs of earrings which I designed in colors to match the choker.  The earrings in the upper portion of the display have handknit beads with yarn the same as in the choker.

These items will be soon listed in my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy and will also be available at my last art show of the season coming up in November in Madision, WI.  More info on that show coming soon.

Here is another style of handknit choker created using a beautiful multi-colored ribbon yarn.  Each flower has a Swarovski crystal butterfly bead handsewn into the center.  The earrings were made to match with a handknit bead and Swarovski crystal earrings.

These are just a few of the samples of fiber art and crystal jewelry that I will have available in my DZFANTASY shop on Etsy: http://dzfantasy.etsy.com/ and also at the Winter Art Festival in Madison, WI.

Fiber Fantasy Butterfly Wall Accent - Zebra Print with Pink!!

Fiber Sculpted Butterfly Wall Accent

I really thought my daughter was kidding when she said the latest rage in decor was "zebra prints accented with pink"!!  After searching around on the internet, I found she was right!!  There are loads of different items for decorating with this color combination!  Guess I'm not much in keeping up with trends.

I decided to create this fantasy butterfly wall accent in those colors and see how it goes over at my upcoming art show next weekend.  How many of you knew of this color combination being one of the latest trends in decor??

Now I think I will have to create a little "zebra fairy" ..... with pink hair maybe!

Artist's Review of the 25th Annual Firefly Art Fair - Wauwatosa, WI

25th Annual Firefly Art Fair

This past weekend, August 6 & 7th I exhibited at one of my all time favorite art shows, the 25th Annual Firefly Art Fair sponsored by the Wauwatosa Historical Society in Wauwatosa, WI.

This was the first art show I've done this season and was looking forward to seeing how the economy would have its effect on this particular show.  I've done this show for 14 years and it has always been a top selling show for me.

Below you will see photos, which I took on Saturday during the show.  They are a sad commentary on how art shows have declined over the past several years.  Saturday, at the Firefly, which was always crowded with art goers and "buyers", was down to almost no people attending, which made for hardly any "buyers".

This is a shot from my booth down the isle!!  This was about an hour after the show opened at 10 a.m.!!

Tables set up in the Victorian garden where people can sit and eat their food.  This area is normally crowded with "eating" customers.  Not this weekend!!

The Silient Auction area at one point on Saturday.  There were a lot of great art to bid on, donated from the artists.  Where are all the people!

Other years, people are normally lined up to get into this show.  This is a view of one of the entrances near my booth.  The entrance fee was raised to $4.00 this year from $3.00 in previous years.

This group was part of the entertainment at the show.  They were having a good time singing old time songs!

This is a fun couple we met at various art shows and they always have a great sense of humor!  Beautiful carvings on gourds is their medium!  This is what makes doing shows fun......when you reconnect with other artists which you have met over the years.

OK, here I am....still smiling, even though my sales were down from previous years over $1,300!  Iconsider myself very fortunate in not having to depend on art sales to live!  There were other artists at the show that didn't sell anything or next to nothing.  My sister and I always have a good time and "laughs" no matter what the show is like.  It is always fun to meet and talk to new people and visit with previous customers and artists.

My sister, Dianne!  Can't imagine doing a show without her!  She is so good at displaying my art.  In the past I usually always had at least 80 - to 100 creations to sell, but this year I only started with 22 figures and my fiber jewelry.  Since my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer last May and passed away in October, 2010, I didn't have the time to spend all the hours I used to in creating.  I truly believe that everything works out the way it is supposed to and that there is a purpose to everything that happens in life. If there were a lot more buyers at the show this year, I could have run out of inventory!!

The key is to keep on smiling and laugh a lot!!

The FIRELY is still my favorite show, so we shall see what next year brings!  My next show will be the Waukesha Art Fest on September 10, 2011, in historic downtown Waukesha.  If you live in the area.....stop by for a visit!

FEATURED ETSY SHOP - ROSE GLEN - Clothing for Curvy Women

by
ROSE GLEN
(click on this item's title above to learn more about it)

Let's welcome, Rose and her delightful clothes, which she sells through her Etsy shop, ROSE GLEN - Clothes for Curvy Women.  You can find out a bit more about Rose and how she got started in designing clothes by reading her interview below. Then, be sure to pay a visit to her Etsy shop and other links listed below.

What led you to start creating your art/craft?

My aunties were the local dressmakers, and as a child I became intrigued and wanted to do what they were doing. So I copied in a crudish child like way, I used leftover scrapes and started making clothes for my dolls. The birth of my daughter gave me the incentive to continue sewing spurred on by little money and a desire to dress my daughter in pretty clothes. Coincidently she introduced me to Etsy, as she also has a shop on Etsy called “csevenm”

How did you decide what medium you wanted to work with?

I used to create plus size clothing for a friend's shop, sadly this has now closed. When I was introduced to Etsy, by my daughter, this gave me an opportunity to continue creating. I also love fabrics, what creative person does not and Etsy enables me to indulge in this passion.

(click on item's title above to learn more about it)

What aspect of creating your art/craft do you find the most enjoyable?

The start and the finishes. Buying the fabric, the joy of walking into a full fabric shop, touching feeling and selection a piece of fabric, and seeing the end result of what I have chosen to create from the fabric.

If you had to choose a fruit OR a vegetable, to describe your art/craft, what would you choose, and why?

Interesting question, hmm, I would say peppers, because they come in all colours, shapes and sizes. They can be sweet or spicy and they are a perfect way to spice up a meal. I feel as an analogy this can be applied to my craft, the fabrics, thread, and sewing equipment comes in all shapes colours and sizes, and dependent of what is used and how it is used, I can spice up and create something colourful and different each time.

If you had to choose one other medium in which to display your “creativity”, what would that be, and why?

I would like to display my work in a small boutique, as it would be available to a wider market. I have managed to find one who was willing to take my daughter’s designs and hopefully I will find one for my designs.

What message, if any, do you want to convey with your art/craft?

I make clothes for women who celebrate their femininity regardless of size, clothes that can be worn across all seasons fashion trends.

What advice do you have for other artists/crafters?

Etsy and the online market is like the ocean, you can easily get swallowed up and drown, but as long as you are doing what you are doing through love and appreciation you will not drown. You will bob around and this way you will get to see what everyone is doing and eventually you will find an ocean to bob up and down in.

Thank you, Rose, for taking the time to share your thoughts and your creations with all of us!
